Two years. Two counsel and one of the City's oldest law firms on the other side. No barrister. No solicitor. Just preparation, strategy, and the certainty that nobody cared about the outcome more than I did.
That experience taught me something I have never forgotten: the law is not a mystery. It is a system. And anyone who understands the system, prepares properly, and presents their case clearly can hold their own against any opponent, regardless of how many lawyers are on the other side.
Be Your Best Lawyer exists because I believe access to justice should not depend on access to a solicitor. Every day, thousands of people in England and Wales walk into court hearings, employment tribunals, and civil proceedings alone, without the knowledge they need to present their case effectively. Many of them lose not because they were wrong, but because they were unprepared.
I am a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, non-practising. I took my LLB at the University of Natal, where I was awarded the prize for Evidence. I then completed an MBA with Distinction at Oxford Brookes University.
My legal career spanned commercial litigation, contract law, and employment matters across two jurisdictions. I have been on both sides of complex disputes: as a professional advising clients, and as an individual litigant facing opponents with vastly more resources.
The preparation that goes into a case matters more than who is in the room. A litigant in person who understands the procedure, knows the legal test, and has organised their evidence clearly will outperform a legally represented opponent every time the other side is complacent.
The guides and resources on this platform are what I would give a paying client. Not a watered-down summary, not generic advice, but specific, practical guidance on the law and procedure of England and Wales, written for the person who is going to use it in a real case.
The blog gives you the what and the why. The guides give you the how. Together they give you what you need to walk into any proceeding and hold your own.
Sometimes a guide is not enough. If you need a document reviewed before it goes to court, a frank assessment of where your case stands, or expert support through proceedings, I offer a direct legal consultancy service covering family law, employment tribunal, and civil court matters.
I am non-practising, which means I operate as a legal consultant rather than a regulated adviser. I can work with you directly, review your documents, help you build your case strategy, and support you through proceedings in a way that gives you a genuinely expert resource without the cost of a practising solicitor.
View Support and Consultancy OptionsI am a non-practising solicitor. The guides and articles on this platform are educational resources, not regulated legal advice. The consultancy service provides expert guidance but does not create a solicitor-client relationship. If your situation requires regulated legal advice, I will tell you so.
